Microbial Planet Soil Restorations
Projects & Partners
Project - Stanley Park microbial soil study
We have three sites we're currently monitoring for microbial changes over time.
Sunshine coast community forest
We have two current projects underway with SCCF. The first one commenced spring 2022 on cut-block EW24 where we're monitoring the soil biology to determine how it is affected by various logging practices. Our latest project with SCCF involves the use of cover-crops with microbial inoculations. There are test plots and control plot. The soil will be monitor to determine colonization levels of the microbial communities. These application and study is being conducted on cut-block HM50.
the orchard - brickers
Step 1 - early spring 2023 we provided a Soil Restoration Plan currently being implement on their 3 acre apple orchard. We will update as this project progress.
The blueberry biological control test
A control study is underway to determine the impacts of specific biological treatments on blueberry shrubs. It involves 12 plants, 6 controlled and 6 test plants. All other factors such as start soil, amendments and watering are being treated exactly the same. Updates will be provided in the upcoming newsletters.
Persephone Brewing Company
A big thank you to Persephone who supports our studies and the Compost Patch, which is our microbial habitat with the much needed high N in the form of spent grain which activates our hand built thermophilic composts.
The compost patch
The Compost Patch is were we maintain our microbial habitats. In 2022 we produced 11, 220 gallon thermophilic compost by hand. We tend to these compost with the microbes in mind, maintaining ideal conditions to support their needs. Its from these composts that we extract our microbes for inoculation purposes so its very important that the habitat be ideal for the microbes that benefits our soils.
